Bookstore: Goldstein and Salzberg

Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg, co-founders of the Insight Meditation Society, teach the Buddhist vipassana, or insight meditation. This comprehensive audio correspondence course, the first of its kind, is designed to be completed within a year. Side 1 of each tape contains a talk about a specific aspect of meditation practice, while side 2 follows with a guided meditation. Arranged in a naturally flowing sequence, tapes should be listened to in order. Purchasers of INSIGHT MEDITATION are entitled to a year of guidance and support from a personal meditation instructor. The accompanying workbook contains lesson reviews, a glossary, exercises, and questions for the student. A student may submit answers to the instructor by regular mail, email, or--appropriately--by audiocassette. Students can expect a helpful, attentive, and timely response. Listeners who participate fully in the course can expect to develop a strong foundation in daily meditation practice. C.S. © AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine.

Joseph Goldstein has been leading insight and lovingkindness meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. He is a cofounder of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts, where he is one of the resident guiding teachers. In 1989, together with several other teachers and students of insight meditation, he helped establish the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies. He is currently developing The Forest Refuge, a new center for long-term meditation practice.

Sharon Salzberg has been a student of Buddhism since 1971, and has been leading meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. She teaches both intensive awareness practice (vipassana or insight meditation) and the profound cultivation of lovingkindness and compassion (the Brahma Viharas). She is the author of Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience, Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness and A Heart as Wide as the World; and co-author with Joseph Goldstein of Insight Meditation, a Step-by-Step Course on How to Meditate (audio), from Sounds True.
