Cortnee Mendoza is member of Magnolia Sangha, and author
of a new book! The Ivory Tower:
Within and Outside is a collection of poems that stand firmly in realism while
looking ambitiously toward surrealism. It is a volume coming from a
perspective that speaks of that which is beyond the material. It tells of the
hidden qualities of things with a voice that is simple while speaking of
subjects that are involved and delving. The reasons behind choice, the voice
of the sun, the changes of grass, and the bounce of a basketball all have
their unexamined qualities revealed in this work. These poems span from the
ethereal to the mundane, while taking the reader from the confines of the
tower, through the door, and outside, where all that was learned can now be
used in encounters made in the exterior world. (see
book cover) Available in your local bookstore now.
Cortnee Mendoza, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from the University
of Memphis in 2003. Cortnee has been published in the anthologies Carvings in
Stone and A Celebration of Appalachia’s Young Poets 1998. He placed in the
NAACP ACT-SO playwriting competition and was a recipient of the Elizabeth C.
Phillips Scholarship.
